JOYAS QUE HABLAN EN SILENCIO

JEWELS THAT SPEAK IN SILENCE

I find it fascinating that these small pieces we call jewelry evoke a moment, a feeling or a memory so intensely, and the main reason is because they are loaded with symbols, that is, they contain a meaning stored in a figure or object that lets us see something more than what is immediately perceived and with this they transmit a subtle message. They speak to us silently.

We humans are the only ones who live in a world of meaning; we create symbols to convey an idea and jewelry is no exception. Jewelry speaks without words of our love, fidelity, power, status, devotion, political or religious ideas. It reminds us of who we are and where we belong. It brings us closer to our “tribe” and speaks our emotional language, that which moves us as human beings.

By choosing a certain figure or design in a piece of jewelry, we are transmitting a veiled message to the world. A cross, for example, will tell others that you practice the Catholic faith. If you choose a cat pendant, you will surely want to convey that you have one or at least that you like them. A crown will clearly say who the person of power is in the room.

A ring on the ring finger of the left hand will shout that you are a person committed to someone else. I could tell you many more examples of how jewelry plays this role of messenger in our lives.

Therefore, when choosing a piece of jewelry, I recommend that you be careful, especially when it is a gift for someone else. A valuable necklace for a person you have only known for a short time, instead of making you look good, will send the wrong message.

I suggest you reserve gold pieces for people who are very close and dear to you. Not everyone is given a gold jewel, which has always been a symbol of status and wealth, unless that is precisely what you want to make clear. Very personal jewels, such as rings, also speak loudly.

Choosing the right ring can convey a message of power, style and sophistication or the complete opposite. Let your jewelry speak for you, silently communicating the messages you want others to read in it.
